Recognition for exceptional terroirs
This reputation is justified by its recognised exceptional terroirs – 13 of Alsace’s 51 ‘Grands Crus’ are found here – combined with a winegrowing tradition stretching back thousands of years…
The Ribeauvillé area owes its exceptional terroirs to the fracture zone that formed when the Rhine basin collapsed. 15 km long and 4 km wide, it stretches from Saint-Hippolyte to Ingersheim and has given rise to a mosaic of terroirs whose concentration of such a diversity of soils and sub-soils is unique in Europe, if not the world.
Géovino’s ambition is to use this geological specificity to explain the link between terroir and wine.
